Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Jim McCarthy to serve a second term
Jacksonville, Fla., March 17, 2021 – Jim McCarthy, president of North Florida Land Trust (NFLT), has been appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to serve on the state’s Environmental Regulatory Commission (ERC). McCarthy was among four people recently named to the position by Governor DeSantis. McCarthy is a representative of the environmental community on the seven-member board which includes people from a variety of industries including agriculture, development, local government, the scientific and technical community, and citizens of the state.
“It is always a pleasure to serve the Governor and the people of Florida,” said McCarthy. “As the representative from the environmental community, I look forward to continuing to protect the water we all depend on for our drinking, fishing, farming, recreation and all the businesses that depend upon it.”
McCarthy, who has served as president of NFLT since 2014, was first appointed to the ERC position in December of 2016 by then-Governor Rick Scott. His current appointment is still subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. If approved, McCarthy will serve on the ERC board through 2024.
Florida’s ERC is responsible for setting standards and rules that protect Floridians and the environment. They are responsible for looking at the scientific and technical validity of issues impacting the state. They also look at the economic impacts and the risks and benefits of issues or projects that could affect Florida’s natural resources.
